Laya Glover
Coach North Ft. Myers - Novice Group
Email
While growing up in the
Philippines and Japan Laya started swimming competitively at the
age of six. Her most memorable highlight was an international meet
in Manila, where at 9 years old, she placed first in the 50-meter
fly.
As a HS
student in the town of Redmond, Oregon she along with other
students helped the city to vote in a community pool. It took many
door-to-door flyers and a lot of convincing to not only get
construction underway, but also get approval for a high school swim
team. Once accomplished, she swam, lettered and went to
State.
As a lifeguard and a
Water Safety Instructor, she began teaching toddler and
Mother-infant classes in 1980. She then moved on to teach High
School and Middle school students swimming in Phys Ed
class.
Laya moved to Florida with
her husband and son in 1988. Her son grew up here in N. Fort
Myers and now resides in Cape Coral. Her daughter Nicole
joined Swim Florida in 2007. Currently, Laya is
volunteer at Nicole’s elementary school and a volunteer
assistant coach for the North Fort Myers Swim Florida
Team.
