NAPLES — About 33 people, many of them high school students, have signed up for the Swim Florida competitive swim team at Golden Gate Aquatic Center.
The team, which officially started training June 1, offers an introduction to competitive swimming for age group (starting at age 5), high school and college, masters and triathlete classifications.
“We’re just offering another option for people,” said Daryl Sullivan, one of the coaches.
Age group and masters swimmers are practicing from 6 to 8:30 a.m. and high school and college from 6 to 8 a.m.
Sullivan said the program will help swimmers train for the swimming portion of triathlons.
If interest is strong enough, organizers hope to start a summer league during which the team will compete against other state programs. Call Sullivan at 455-6122.
